Technically it was fall but our seasons are not obvious in Houston. Unless it\u2019s hurricane season or an ice storm perhaps. Definitely winter if there\u2019s ice hanging from the drooping telephone wires and people are trapped in their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Perhaps we should name our seasons after what actually happens, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/place\/Egypt\/Agriculture-and-fishing#ref935697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as the Egyptians did<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We were traipsing through the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.savebuffalobayou.org\/?p=8018\" target=\"_blank\">forbidden woods<\/a> just after dawn, talking too much probably, headed towards the high bank overlooking that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.savebuffalobayou.org\/?page_id=2324\" target=\"_blank\">bend in the river we\u2019ve been documenting throughout the seasons<\/a> for over eight years now. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimolivephotography.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Olive, our boss photographer,<\/a> was not available so the assistant photog was leading the way down the shadowy dirt path, accompanied by a backup assistant.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The big woods were forbidden, still, because the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.savebuffalobayou.org\/?p=8018\" target=\"_blank\">private conservancy that manages our public park decided several years ago for dubious reasons that the paths through these lovely woods were closed<\/a>, throwing up threatening signs, wire fencing, and piles of cut tree trunks and branches.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In rebellious response, someone recently had blocked out the \u201cNot\u201d on the \u201cDo Not Enter\u201d sign.
