Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia is hosting a public discussion about the protection of our low-lying coastal region from hurricane surge flooding. Various alternatives to protect the developed western shoreline of Galveston Bay will be set out. The U.S.  Army Corps of Engineers will provide an update on their planning process and the coastal spine, Texas A&M Galveston will make a presentation of their proposed Ike Dike, and the SSPEED Center at Rice University will present their Galveston Bay Park Plan, a concept for building a bay barrier along the Houston Ship Channel with a mid-bay surge gate.
